Getting the bus from Lanzarote Airport to Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca
If you're looking for an easy way to get from the Lanzarote Airport to Playa Blanca then the local bus service is simple, cheap and convenient.
The Lanzarote bus services are affordable, clean, comfortable (yes, they are air conditioned) and efficient and, although often overlooked as a method of transport from the airport to your resort, are a great way to get to your resort and accommodation. The 161 bus route departs the airport at regular intervals, every 30 minutes, and travels through Puerto del Carmen, making regular stops at or very near to most of the popular complexes and hotels.
The bus stop at the airport is really easy to find. As you leave the luggage collection, take a right and head down to the end of the corridor. Go through the doors and you'll see the information sign for bus departures right in front of you.
Before you get on the bus, remember that the Lanzarote Bus Services are cash only, so remember to have some change on you. And if possible, have the exact amount.
If you're stopping in Playa Blanca, is the local bus service a good way to get from the airport?
Without question, the local bus service from the airport is ideal if you're staying in Puerto del Carmen, but what about holiday-makers staying in Playa Blanca. The distance to Playa Blanca means that the bus journey can be quite a bit longer, adding up to 40 minutes to the travel time, but for just a few euros it's a lot cheaper than getting a direct taxi, which could easily set you back around €50.
The other issue with getting the bus direct to Playa Blanca is that it only stops at the bus station in the centre of town, so you then need to arrange a different form of transport to get to your accommodation from there. This could be a taxi, or you could use the Playa Blanca local bus service which does a continuous loop through the town throughout the day.
Due to the fact that there is extra cost and time to get to your accommodation once you get to Playa Blanca, it might be better to consider a shuttle or private transfer if you're staying in this part of the Lanzarote. Check out the TravelON Lanzarote Airport Transfer service for more information.
What if you're staying in Costa Teguise? Is there a bus service from Lanzarote Airport to Costa Teguise?
There is a bus service that will get you to Costa Teguise, but it's not direct. You will need to take the service to Arrecife and change bus there for the rest of the journey.
Of course, this is the service you would take if you're also staying in Arrecife.
When might a private transfer service be better than the local bus service from the Lanzarote Airport?
The Lanzarote bus from the airport to Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca really is a great service, especially for the price. However, if you're travelling in a group and / or have a lot of luggage it might be easier and less stressful to get a private transfer direct to the door of your accommodation.
It's also one less thing to worry about after a long day of travelling, knowing that a vehicle is ready and waiting for you.
