Reports suggested that scorching temperatures could hit the Canary Islands in May. Forecasts predict that temperatures could soar to 30 degrees Celsius on Saturday and Sunday (4th and 5th) across several islands, thanks to a warm air mass settling over the archipelago.
The warmer weather conditions in the Canary Islands are to be influenced by an air mass making settling over the region and creating a rise in temperature.
Whilst mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands are expected to see warmer weather on Friday, The Canary Islands will have to wait until the weekend and next week.
During Saturday and Sunday, most of Spain will experience anticyclonic weather, bringing predominantly sunny conditions across the country. However, in the northernmost regions of the Peninsula, cloudy skies are likely to persist, with the chance of some light rain.
In the Canary Islands, we can expect partly cloudy intervals along with the presence of trade winds. Temperatures will continue to climb, creating a warm atmosphere during peak day time hours. Maximum temperatures are forecasted to range between 28 and 30°C in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura.
Aemet forecasts are a little more conservative, suggesting that temperatures could hit mid twenties over the weekend, climbing to 29 degrees the following week.
In times of warmer conditions visitors to the island are advised to stay hydrated and where possible remain in cooler, shaded areas.
