Visit Los Lobos and Popcorn Beach in Fuerteventura
Popcorn beach in Fuerteventura is increasingly becoming more and more popular, as word gets around about this unique beach on the island. It's official name is Playa del Bajo de la Burra, but has been dubbed Popcorn beach due to the peculiar shaped white algae fossils that cover up the beach, and look like... you guessed it... Popcorn!
What is Popcorn Beach Fuerteventura
At first sight, you'll notice that Popcorn beach in Fuerteventura is no normal beach. From a distance it might look like it's covered in white sand, but on closer inspection you'll marvel at the algae fossils (technical term - Rhodoliths) that have earned the beach it's nickname.
The algae starts off a reddish colour and turns white later in its life. The fossils are then washed ashore and have formed the 'beach'.
There are many different Popcorn beach phenomena around the world, but it's though that the Popcorn Beach at Fuerteventura is one of, if not the most impressive.
Popcorn Beach in Fuerteventura has been 'popping' up on many Instagram feeds recently - and it's easy to see why as you won't see anything like this nearby.
Is Popcorn Beach worth visiting?
You won't see anything like Popcorn Beach in Fuerteventura anywhere nearby, so if you're into exploring the natural beauty of the island then it's completely worth a visit. You'll be able to take some photos and soak in the tranquility of the area. There is also a cafe nearby where you can grab a snack and drink and relax and take in the unique scenery.
Popcorn Beach Preservation
Popcorn beach is becoming a very popular place to visit and awareness and campaigns have started to protect it. If you visit, take as many photos as you like, enjoy the sensation of walking on the 'popcorn' but please leave it in place for the enjoyment of others.
How can you find Popcorn Beach Fuerteventura
Popcorn Beach is in the north of Fuerteventura, to the east of Corralejo. You can get to Popcorn Beach on foot and it will take around 1 hour, but the best way to find it is off course as part of a guided tour. That way you won't waste any time, and will head straight to the destination.
Los Lobos, Fuerteventura
As part of this Fuerteventura Tour you'll also get to visit the neighbouring island of Los Lobos. The island, visible from Corralejo, is a national park and protected space but as part of this excursion you'll be able to enjoy some time in the crystal clear waters surrounding the coastline and explore the fauna and paths on land.
Los Lobos is inhabited and therefore completely unspoilt. There is a lighthouse located on the Northern point (it's possible to walk here) and to the East of the island you'll find small lagoons that are perfect for bathing in. Los Lobos itself, like the rest of the Canary Islands, is volcanic. It's highest point is 127m, which is the tip of La Caldera Volcano, half of which has been claimed by the Atlantic Ocean.
Fuerteventura Sand Dunes
No tour of this part of Fuerteventura is complete without a visit to the vast, and famous Sand Dunes. The Parque Natural de las Dunas de Corralejo is one of the most frequently visited areas in Fuerteventura and is where you will find the largest sand dunes of the Canary Islands.
The Popcorn Beach and North Fuerteventura Tour
The Popcorn Beach and North Fuerteventura Tour is a full day excursion where you will see some of the very best natural sights in the North of the Island. For this reason it's extremely popular and books up fast, so to avoid disappointment reserve your places on the tour today.
