Stop 1 Arucas (The Banana Capital of Gran Canaria)
The Roque Nublo Gran Canaria Tour begins in the North-East of the island. To get here the tour travels from the holiday resorts of the South and through the city of Las Palmas. En route you will enjoy views of the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium and a stunning panoramic view of the city.
On arrival in Arucas, the guided tour visits the astounding neogothic church of San Juan Bautista. A 20th Century monument with the feel of a medieval church. The masterpiece of architecture is a Catholic church located in the old town of Arucas and took over 68 years to finish construction.
Stop 2 Teror Gran Canaria
Teror is located in the northern part of Gran Canaria and is known for its picturesque old town, traditional architecture, and the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pine (Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pino), a significant religious site for Catholics in the Canary Islands.
On arrival in Teror, you can see the landmarks of the village and its squares and historic corners, and enjoy a stroll through its romantic streets lined with post-colonial architecture.
Stop 3 The Basilica of Teror
The Basilica de la Virgen del Pino is the main church in Teror, built in a traditional island-style in the 18th Century. The church and square are a great example of Canarian history and tradition.
Stop 4 Lunch
After Teror the Roque Nublo Gran Canaria Tour takes a break to have lunch. Although lunch is not included in the price, you can bring your own, or take advantage of a varied and typical table d’hote menu which includes drinks (water and wine or soft drinks) . This is charged locally at €12 for adults and €11 for children and special dietary requirements can be catered for.
Stop 5 Tejeda - Viewpoint of Roque Nublo
Following Lunch the Roque Nublo Gran Canaria Tour takes you to Tejeda - the viewpoint of Roque Nublo.
Roque Nublo is an iconic natural landmark located in the heart of the island, and a prominent geological feature that holds cultural and historical significance for the people of Gran Canaria. It has been a symbol of the island and is often depicted in artwork and folklore of the indigenous Guanche people, who inhabited the Canary Islands before the arrival of the Spanish, considered it a sacred site.
As the tour climbs into the mountains of Gran Canaria you will notice the landscape becomes much greener. A stark contrast to the dry, dusty terrain of the south. The peak surrounds you pine and chestnut forests lining the roadside. .
You will pass the popular hotel Parador of the Cruz de Tejeda, set in amazing surroundings and views of the cliffs and ravines. Surrounded by greenery this building is over 1,500 meters above sea level.
Stop 6 Ayacata and San Bartolomé
After hitting the peaks the Roque Nublo Gran Canaria Tour starts to descend back down, heading South towards Ayacata. This part of the island is decorated in pine forests, water damns and almond trees.
In the village of Tunte, San Bartolomé, you can experience the sight of a large volcanic crater that's 10 km in diameter. At this point you will stop for coffee and the chance to take some photos of the stunning natural phenomenon and the breathtaking views over the villages of Temisas and Santa Lucia.
Stop 7 Visit to the Aloe Vera Plantation
As you journey further South you will notice how the landscape changes back to a rocky, dry terrain. But that doesn't make it any less spectacular. At times you could be forgiven you are thinking in Nevada and The Grand Canyon.
The vegetation changes and the plants are different. Instead of the Pine Trees in the centre of the island you will now see cactus, aloes and agaves, all perfectly adapted for the low levels of rainfall in the south of the island. Fataga, the valley of the thousand palms, then welcomes the guests of the tour. This is a beautiful valley filled with palms at the bottom of a pretty and fertile valley.
Following the 7 conclusion of the 7th stop, the tour will head back to the resorts and return you to your accommodation.
