It's going to be a warm one here on the island this week, with temperatures forecasting to hit nearly 40 degrees in places.
We all come to the Canary Islands for a bit of sunshine and warmth, but this week we could get a little more than we bargained for. According to AEMET, the official weather service for Spain, temperatures could soar to a crazy 40 degrees in parts of Lanzarote. The second major heatwave of the summer could be on it's way to the islands thanks to a mass of Saharan air.
Whilst AEMET have issued an alert for the temperatures on the mainland and Balearics, they have also stated that the Canary Islands also face extremely high temperatures during this period.
When Saharan Air hits the Canary Islands it often brings with it sand, which can create a strange orange glow in the sky (and all over the white properties on the island). This phenomenom s known as Calima.
If you're on the islands this week, remember to take care when out in the sun. Wear plenty of UV protection, and drink lots of water.
Looking to escape the heat? Why not book on a Lanzarote Excursion and enjoy the day exploring the best sights of the island on an air conditioned coach?
