The Canary Islands enjoy warm weather all year around, but AEMET, The Spanish State Meteorological Agency, have reported higher temperatures than normal in December thanks to a warm air mass and Calima.
December in Lanzarote usually sees average temperatures of around 21 degrees, but reports suggested the mercury could reach as high as 28. This sort of weather is usually associated with October.
Despite the forecasted increase in temperature AEMET have not issued any heat warnings.
The forecast for high temperatures also covers mainland Spain, where parts of the country could see the average temperature 6 degrees higher than normal for this time of year with a possibility of 11th and 12th of December being the warmest days in December since records began in 1940.
The warm weather will be welcomed by visitors with a holiday booked on the islands this month, especially those escaping the cold, wet weather of Northern Europe.
