Lanzarote North Island Tour
In contrast to the south of the island, the north of Lanzarote is much greener, sometimes cooler and much more typically Canarian. It might also surprise you just how much it has to offer in terms of experiences and attractions. If you prefer to do your sightseeing all in one day, this is a great way to see some of the best bits of the North of Lanzarote.
If you've already discovered the south of Lanzarote and places such as The Timanfaya National Park, then the Jameos del Agua and North Tour is certainly one to book. After being collected form your hotel or nearby your accommodation you'll be driven by air conditioned coach to attractions such as the Monumento Al Campesino, Haria and the Valley of 1000 palms, the Green Caves and Jameos del Agua and finally the Cèsar Manrique foundation. Some great attractions to visit to keep the whole family entertained for the day!
How does the North of Lanzarote differ from the South of the Island?
Much less developed than the south of the Island, visiting the north can be like stepping back in time and immersing yourself in the true history and culture of Lanzarote. From sleepy Canarian villages to attractions that fuse the natural lanscape with art, the diverse nature of things to see and do in the north of Lanzarote makes it a great day out for all the family .
What will you get to see on the James del Agua and North Tour of Lanzarote?
After being collected from your hotel or accommodation you'll be taken, by air-conditioned coach to the first stop on the tour, Monumento Al Campesino.
Monumento Al Campesino
As you approach this attraction, you'll certainly find it hard not to notice the tall, bright white monument at the side of the road. The Monumento Al Campesino is one of many Cèsar Manrique inspired attractions on the island and was designed and build as a tribute to the farmers on the island. Inside you'll find a beautifully crafted spiral staircase, artisan shops and a restaurant. This is a short stop before heading to the next place on our tour.
The Green Caves
Following on from the stop at Haria, the tour moves on to the Green Caves (Cueva de los Verdes). The visitor attraction covers around 1km of a 6km lava tunnel stretching from Volcano La Corona in the north of Lanzarote, through to the coast.
The caves have been presented beautifully for visitors with a purpose built path, ambient lighting and soundtrack, and you'll be guided through the tunnel by an expert host in both Spanish and English.
The Green Caves tour is on two levels, and don't worry if you think you might get cold. The caves aren't that deep and the temperature us a very comfortable 18/19 degrees.
The Valley of a thousand palms and the village of Haria
You don't get much more Canarian than the village of Haria. This peaceful, quaint village is beautifully kept and the tiny streets and small cafes and restaurants that line them transport you back in time to how Lanzarote used to be.
On the approach to Haria you'll see the impressive Valley of 1000 palms - and on first sight you'll understand how it gets its name. The impressive collection of palm trees is a result of locals planting them each time a child was born in the village. A lovely story that has created such a beautiful vista as you look down the postcard, picturesque valley.
Jameos del Aqua
The penulimate stop of the tour takes you to Jameos del Agua. One of Cesar Manrique's most revered works, this stunning subterranean salt water lake is home to blind albino crabs that are native to the island of Lanzarote.
It's also a showcase for some amazing architecture with a swimming pool that is, literally, fit for a king. The King of Spain non the less! Here you'll also find a unique concert arena that has been built into the Lava tunnel. The volcanic rock helps to create some amazing acoustics. Although there won't be any concerts on during the day when you visit, you can book tickets to private concerts, and the sound, ambience and atmosphere will blow you away.
In Summary...
If you've got a day to spend exploring, then we would certainly recommend this tour. It takes you to some of the best places that the north of Lanzarote has to offer. For your convenience the tour will collect you from your accommodation, and return you at the end of the day.
