Thinking of taking a day trip to Fuerteventura from Lanzarote?
Although just a few miles apart, the trip across the water between Lanzarote to Fuerteventura is popular with holidaymakers on both islands as they seek to experience two Canary Islands in one holiday. The 7 mile stretch of water that dives the two islands is regularly serviced by ferries that carry cargo, vehicles and passengers. On a clear day both islands are visible to one another and the ferry services make it easy for holidaymakers to experience the pleasures of each one. The distance between these two towns is the shortest distance between the two islands.
Are there things to do in Fuerteventura?
Whilst you might think that there is plenty going on in Lanzarote to warrant visiting another island, you might be surprised at how much Fuerteventura has to offer. Fuerteventura, like Lanzarote, is another volcanic island however it couldn't be more different. One of the first things you'll notice when you disembark from the ferry is that the streets of Corralejo are lined with coloured buildings - they aren't just white! Whilst Lanzarote has its famous Timanfaya National Park, Fuerteventura is famous for the Sand Dunes of Corralejo - a short bus, car or taxi road out of the town itself. To the west you also have the instagramable Popcorn beach named after the amazing algae that is washed ashore and actually resembles popcorn! Although it's difficult to get to the south of Fuerteventura in a day (it's a much bigger island than Lanzarote) you'll encounter amazing volcanic landscapes that have been claimed by sweeping sands. The golden beaches and turquoise waters of Jandia are some of the best in the world and popular with the kite surfing communities. Not far from here you'll also find the Oasis Park Zoo which is a fantastic day out for all the family.

Of course, the ferry service that runs between the two islands doesn't just make it easy for holidaymakers to travel from Lanzarote to Fuerteventura, but it also enables guests in Fuerteventura to experience some of the wonders of Lanzarote!
Lanzarote is much smaller than Fuerteventura, so its easier to pack more into one day, be it on a guided coach tour or hiring your own car to get around and see the sites that interest you. It's also a popular trip to just mooch around the town of Playa Blanca which has a very different feel to what people might experience in Corralejo. Playa Blanca is spread out along the coastline, but the town itself is right by the port. As you walk across the promenade you will be greeted by a diverse selection of bars, restaurants and shops before hitting Dorada Beach. If you carry on walking from here you'll eventually get to the Marina Rubicon, another area of Playa Blanca renowned for great restaurants, designer shops and a luxurious ambience.
If you're hiring a car you can get around the island in a few hours, but you're probably not going to get to spend quality time at all the attractions. The most popular things to see and do are The Timanfaya National Park, The Green Caves, Jameos del Agua, Mirador del Rio and the La Geria wine region. The Green Lake at El Golfo and Los Hervideros are also popular natural attractions that are easy to get to from Playa Blanca by car.
The Papagayo Beaches are another popular place to visit when coming over from Fuerteventura, although the access road isn't great so if you're hiring a car then check the small print to see if it forbids going 'off-road'.

The park covers approximately 51 square kilometres and is characterised by its unique geothermal activity, which can be observed through steam vents and hot ground. The Fuerteventura Tour to The Timanfaya National Park takes you around the Lunar Route where you can observe breathtaking lava fields and rock formations, and you'll witness geyser and fire demonstrations that show you just how hot the ground is just meters below your feet.
The Fuerteventura to Lanzarote Tour is also ideal for wine lovers as you visit one of the bodegas in La Geria for wine sampling and the opportunity to purchase a few bottles to enjoy back in Fuerteventura later that evening.
The tour then visits the Green Lake at El Golfo, which is something you can't experience on any other Canary Island. It's a great opportunity for photos as the contrasts of the green water and reds, browns and blacks of the volcanic crater contrast against each other. Following the Green lake you'll pass, and stop at, Los Hervideros. A spot on the west coast famous for its large swells and waves that crash against the rugged coastline created by age old lava flows that hit the ocean.
