Have you just arrived on the beautiful island of Lanzarote and are keen to see more than just its beautiful beaches and local restaurants? Are you interested in the island's natural habitats as well as its history? Well we’ve got some great news, as the North Lanzarote tour explores all of this and more with its visits to charming Canarian villages, two of the famous César Manrique works and breathtaking panoramic views, what’s not to love?!
As well as visiting both El Mirador del Río and Jameos del Agua, famously designed by the local legend César Manrique, you’ll also whisk through the quaint and beautiful villages that the north of the island has to offer. From the old capital of Teguise to the valley of a thousand palms, no stone will be left unturned! So what are you waiting for? Book your place now to avoid disappointment!
What can I expect to see during the North Lanzarote tour?
The tour’s main events surround two locations which are Jameos del Agua and the Mirador del Río. Upon collection at the various collection points, you will firstly head north, visiting the beautiful and historic village of Teguise.
Touring Teguise and Nuestra señora de Guadalupe church
Once the old capital of Lanzarote, Teguise village offers a vast display of old Canarian architecture, cobbled streets and buildings, bursting with history. Here you can admire the church of Nuestra señora de Guadalupe, founded in the early 16th Century as well as the infamous Calle de la sangre (Blood street) which gets its name from an unfortunate and brutal historical event that you will learn about on your visit.
Haría and “El valle de las mil palmeras”
Heading further north on the Lanzarote tour, you will then head towards the village of Haría, homeplace of the very important figure that was César Manrique. On your way, you will see the valley of a thousand palms (El valle de la mil palmeras), one of the greenest areas of lanzarote and also learn of how it came to exist.
El Mirador del Río
Next, through the small and idyllic villages of Máguez and Yé, you will finally reach the Mirador del Río. Created by César Manrique, this beautiful area stands at an impressive 474 meters above the sea, giving unforgettable panoramic views of the ocean and neighboring island of La Graciosa. Here you will see the “Río” (river) separating lanzarote from La Graciosa and also admire the rest of the Chinijo Archipelago. The Lookout is located at what is known as “El Risco de Famara”, a location famous for its hikes and impressive views.
Jameos del Agua
After this, circling La Corona Volcano and Malpaís de la corona, you will head towards Jameos del Agua, yet another one of Manriques uniquely designed attractions. Here you will see the origins of the island through its collapsed volcanic cave, one of its most impressive features. You can tour this unique and magically underground space and admire the architecture, nature and art that Manrique so carefully integrated into it.
Aloe Vera plantation
Following Jameos del Agua you will be taken to a nearby Aloe Vera plantation where not only will you learn about its cultivation process and importance to the Canarian economy, but also taste it and experience its undeniable health benefits.
Villages of Mala and Guatiza
On your return home, you will then go through the villages of Mala and Guatiza, learning about the cochineal, an insect found on cactus plants and used as a natural dye.
