If you're looking for something a little bit different, with a twist of culture, then the North Tour of LagOmar, The Cactus Gardens and La Graciosa is the trip for you.
Taking in some of the best attractions in the North of the Island with LagOmar (Omar Sharif's house), The Cactus Gardens, and neighbouring island of La Graciosa this is a day packed with culture, architecture, Canarian lifestyle and much more.
Take a trip and discover three hidden gems on this North Tour of Lanzarote, including LagOmar, The Cactus Gardens and the island of La Graciosa.
LagOmar. Once the house of Omar Sharif
The north of the island of Lanzarote is a complete contrast to the dry, volcanic south. Much higher in altitude the island is much greener and populated with typical Canarian villages. Some might say that the north of the island gives a much better representation of the real Lanzarote, where as the south is focussed heavily on tourism. The first stop on this excursion takes you to LagOmar. A place you might not hear about too often when it comes to excursions, but it's certainly worth a visit. Fans of Omar Sharif will be excited to learn that, back in the 70's, he fell in love with the house and bought it; only to then lose it in a game of cards!
The house is built into the side of a quarry and is a fascinating place to explore. With outdoor pools, tunnels, staircases and hidden rooms it's not just a house, it's a work of art.
The Cactus Gardens
The Lanzarote Cactus Gardens is home to over 1,100 species of Cacti from all over the world. The tranquil setting, again built in the site of an old quarry, have been beautifully designed to create a beautiful garden of culture, colour and elegance. Set against the clear blue sky of Lanzarote, the Cactus Gardens are an absolute must see when you visit the island.
Amble between the Cacti, or simply relax with a coffee and sandwich on the balcony that overlooks the gardens. You can also get a Cacti souvenir or two from the shop. Anything from baby Cacti to Cactus Jam and Soaps. It's really quite amazing just how versatile the Cactus is.
La Graciosa, The 8th Canary Island
In 2018 La Graciosa was declared an Island in its own right. It used to be governed by Lanzarote but is now officially the 8th Canary Island. It's a glimpse into the past as to how the Canary Islands used to be before tourism took over. There are no roads here, only sandy paths and tracks that lead through the national park to the sandy beaches and coastline. It's an unspoilt reserve that has just two small villages
When you arrive in this little corner of paradise, by Ferry from Orzola, you'll be greeted with a freshly prepared lunch of either a tasty Canarian Paella or vegetarian dish. If you have any special dietary requirements then please let the guides now and they can prepare something accordingly.
After enjoying lunch, take your time to explore the village of Caleta de Sebo, or venture slightly further afield to the golden sands and crystal clear waters. There isn't a lot of places to hide from the sun in La Graciosa, so if you prefer, why not relax in one of the bars or restaurants with a cold drink whilst taking in the magnificent view of the cliffs of Famara.
