With temperatures reaching an average of 19.2C, last month was the hottest April since data was officially recorded back in 1961.
The month of April 2024 in The Canary Islands saw the average temperature 2.7 degrees higher than 'normal' with only 4.2mm of rainfall. The start of the month tended to follow average trends until the 10th day, where temperatures increased due to an isolated high-level depression.
On the 11th and 12th of April, temperatures rose to a huge 9 degrees above average for the time of year.
Towards the end of the month a low pressure system caused the temperatures to drop, thus bringing the average down.
April Showers? Not in the Canary Islands. April saw just three periods of scattered showers, mainly in the higher parts of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, although a brief period of grey skies and precipitation were present across the archipelago.
May continued the trend for warm weather in the Canary Islands, with temperatures hitting 30 degrees in parts during the early stages of the month.
Whilst the good weather is perfect for holidaymakers seeking some spring time sunshine, it can often cause problems for farmers and crops on the island, especially when precipitation levels are low.
