According to the Canary Islands Tourism Research Site, AENA data shows that the Canary Islands welcomed 1.18 million international visitors in August 2024. This figure represents a notable 10% increase compared to the same month in 2023, signalling a continued recovery in the region’s tourism sector.
In this historic achievement, the Canary Islands have welcomed more than one million international visitors in each of the first eight months of 2024. This marks the first time the region has reached this milestone, as previous years typically saw May and June attracting between 800,000 and 900,000 tourists.
This year, however, the traditionally slower months experienced a surge in tourism, with May welcoming 1,046,918 visitors and June seeing 1,070,607. The consistent influx of travellers underscores the Canary Islands' growing popularity as a preferred travel destination, benefiting the local economy and tourism sector.
